Sing-A-Thon

We are going to do some fundraising together in March! In place of a March recital, and to give those doing exams a chance to continue preparing whilst also partaking in something to do with the singing school, we are going to have a Sing-A-Thon on Sunday 23rd March. 

 

We are going to be fundraising for East Kent Mind, the mental health charity which we feel is so important and connected to singing, as people often find that singing improves their mental health, and also Faversham Musical Theatre Choir and their quest for their own personal PA equipment (there will soon be something up on their website explaining more about this, which I'll share in due course). All proceeds from the event will be split between those two causes.

 

The event will take place at Boughton Village Hall. Registration will be from 9.45am and then we will start by doing a warm up together at 10am. The event will finish at 2pm and help packing down would be much appreciated afterwards, as we have the hall until 3pm. 

 

Now, you do not have to be there for the full 4 hours to take part. Once I've made a sponsorship form, you will be able to be sponsored per hour, up to 4 hours (I thought about doing more, but as it's the first one, I thought let's start manageable - and I don't want to kill your voices!) So you don't have to arrive at 9.45am. We'll make sure there is someone on the door all the way up to 1pm to make sure people can be registered throughout the day to join in for as much as they'd like to.

 

The vision for the event is that individuals, duets or small groups of people will come up onto the stage and lead the crowd in singing a song together, so that is where you come in! We will be dividing the day up into genres as follows:

 

10-10.30am Warm up with Naomi

10.30-12noon Musical Theatre

12-1.30pm Pop songs

1.30-2pm Assembly Bangers

 

(Next time, we can divide even further or do other genres too.) So please pick a song that you'd like to perform/lead the room in singing, within those three genres, and help us sing for 4 hours to raise money for Mind & FMTC. The idea is that you'll work with your teacher to find a good karaoke video that will be displayed behind you, so that the room can read the words too. 

 

If you are preparing for exams and can't take the time out to prepare another song to lead the room in, please do come and sing and raise money anyway!!

 

We'll have free tea, coffee, squash and water on tap, but any snacks you'd like to bring, please do. I'll put a few tables out down the sides of the room for people to sit and sing at, should they wish. (But please don't sing with your mouth full!)
